Summer Learning Journey - Week 3 - Day 11 - Activity 2 - My Sports Hero

Today I have to write a short paragraph about my sports hero.

My sport hero is Maria Tutaia because I LOVE playing netball and she is a really good player and she is so cool. Also you can tell she likes netball too. She helps me get better when I am playing netball. She also reminds me of my older sister Mele because they start with the letter M and Mele is a good player. She loves playing netball, she is always Center and Goal Attack and that is Maria's position ( I think) but yeah.

Hope you enjoyed my post. Who is you sport hero? Tell in the comments. Thank you everyone, BYE!!

  1. Hi Anna,

I think that you have chosen a great sporting hero in Maria Tutaia. She is an excellent netball player who has committed the past 10 years to playing netball both professionally and for her country. I believe that she is primarily a shooter who plays Goal Attack (GA) and Goal Shoot (GS).

I really admire a number of athletes and recently have been quite inspired by athletes who compete for New Zealand and have a recognised disability. I think that it's pretty incredible that many of our Paralympic athletes are competing without the full use of their arms, legs, sight, hearing, etc. The Paralympics are the Olympic Games for people with a physical disability.

Two of my favourite Paralympic athletes from New Zealand are Emma Foy - a blind cyclist and Sophie Pascoe - a para swimmer with an amputated leg. She is New Zealand's most successful Paralympian of all time!

For more information about our Paralympic team, feel free to check out this website:

Thanks for the inspiring blog, Anna, and for inviting us to tell you about our sporting hero. I really enjoyed writing to you about athletes who also inspire me, too!

    Cheers,
    Rachel :)

  2. Hi Anna,
It's so good to see you blogging over the holidays. I think Maria Tutaia is an awesome netball player and she's really pretty too. Did you know that she also studied fashion design at university? She is a great role model for all young girls who love netball. My sister met her and said that she looked like a lady from the Amazon - really tall. I hope you're going to continue playing netball this year at school. I hope I can come along and watch one of your games too.

Keep up the great blogging and enjoy the rest of your holidays. Say hello to Mele for me.

    Love Miss Lavakula

  3. Thank you Rachel,

For your amazing comment. I actually know about the Paralympics because I have been learning about it in school. My class read a book about little kids that is disabled and they play like the games.

    1. Hi Anna,

I'm thrilled to read that you've been learning about the Paralympics at school. I don't remember learning about them until I was much older!

I do think that our Paralympic athletes are pretty special. They are so dedicated and motivated to do their best at all times. They actually remind me of you this summer - you are showing great commitment, dedication and determination with the Summer Learning Journey blogging programme. It is wonderful to see!

Keep up the great effort :)

      Cheers,
      Rachel

  5. Hi Anna!

AY! I sometimes play indoor netball on my friends team when she doesn't have enough players! Awesome! I also really enjoy it. I think Maria Tutaia is an excellent player too, who is very strong and learns quickly. She doesn't seem to give up, and stands up for what she believes in.

Anna, I'm heading up north for my best friends wedding tomorrow (I'm the best man and it's on Saturday!!), and coming back on Sunday. So probably won't be blogging till Monday. If I get time I will pop on one of the evenings to check my regular bloggers, but if you don't hear from me then I just want to say enjoy the rest of your week and continue doing what you're doing. You should be very proud of yourself to sticking with the SLJ and always doing your best. Education is important and you'll go far and achieve all kinds of goals if you keep at it.

Take care and Kia kaha! I'll catch up with you and your blogging soon!

    Mark
